Mr Mervyn McKinley Hope was appointed Director of the National Bank of the Virgin Islands in 2018. Before joining the Bank, Mr Hope was employed with Barclays Bank immediately after leaving High School. He attended many banking-related training seminars and courses locally and regionally as he worked through the organization’s ranks. Mr Hope is a Systems Analyst and a UK-trained Instructor in General Banking and Customer Service.

His vast knowledge and varied experience in retail and offshore banking operations influenced his rapid promotion to Supervisory status within five years and afterwards to management. Mr Hope worked in the retail and offshore sectors in Turks and Caicos Islands, Anguilla and St. Maarten and as Internal Auditor and Branch Manager in Barbados. Before his retirement in 2004, Mr Hope was Operations Manager for the Regional Head Office responsible for 14 territories Barclays operated. Mr Hope served his country as Director of a state-owned enterprise and Chairman and Board Member for two secondary schools.
