Mr. Neil M. Smith is the Financial Secretary of the Government of the Virgin Islands, a position he has held since May 2006. In this role, he advises the Government, through the Minister of Finance, on fiscal and economic policy, inclusive of international tax policy. He is an active member of the Peer Review Group of the Global Forum on Tax Transparency and the Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. He is currently taking the lead in preparing the British Virgin Islands for continued, active participation in Global Business Services and has previously served as the European Union’s EDF10 Regional Authorizing Officer for the Caribbean.
Mr. Smith is a Chartered Electrical Engineer, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from the University of Dayton, an MBA (Finance) from Wright State University and a Juris Science Masters in International Tax from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
